Running an onboarding checklist

Checklists give your team a repeatable process for starters and leavers — provisioning a laptop, setting up accounts, collecting equipment back — without relying on memory or a shared doc that goes stale.

Creating a template

  1. Go to Checklists and click New Template.
  2. Give it a name and choose the type: Onboarding or Offboarding.
  3. Add items — one per line — such as "Assign laptop," "Create email account," "Add to Slack," or, for offboarding, "Collect laptop," "Revoke access," "Return access badge."
  4. Save the template. It's reusable for every new starter or leaver going forward.

Tip

Keep templates specific to a role or department if your process differs — e.g. a separate onboarding template for engineers (dev tooling, GitHub access) versus sales (CRM, phone system).

Running a checklist for a specific person

  1. From a template, click Start Checklist.
  2. Enter the assignee's name and email.
  3. Work through the items, ticking each one off as it's completed.
  4. Once every item is checked, the checklist instance is marked complete automatically.

Tracking in-progress checklists

The Checklists page shows every active instance and how far along it is, so you can see at a glance whether a new starter's setup is on track before their first day — or whether a leaver's offboarding still has outstanding items.
