Generating a compliance report
The licence compliance report checks your software records against what's actually linked to devices, and flags anywhere you might be over-licensed, under-licensed, or missing information altogether.
Warning
Licence compliance is a Professional plan feature.
Running the report
Go to Compliance in the sidebar. ClearAsset checks each software record against its linked devices and licence count, and returns one of four statuses per check:
| Status | Meaning | |---|---| | Pass | Licence count covers everything it's installed on | | Fail | More installs than licences — you're out of compliance | | Warning | Something needs a closer look (e.g. an expired licence still in use) | | Not checked | Not enough data recorded yet to evaluate |
Each result includes a detail note explaining the finding and, where relevant, a remediation suggestion — buy more seats, remove an install, or update a licence record.
Getting accurate results
The report is only as good as the data behind it:
- Link every software record to the devices it's actually installed on (see Tracking software licence expiries)
- Keep licence counts and expiry dates up to date as you renew or resize contracts
- Re-run the report after any bulk device or software changes — it reflects live data, not a scheduled scan
Tip
Run this report before license renewals come up — it's the fastest way to catch seats you're paying for but not using, or gaps you'd otherwise only discover at audit time.
