Assigning and checking out devices
Beyond just recording who a device is assigned to long-term, ClearAsset can track short-term loans — who currently has a device and when it's due back.
Warning
Asset checkout is a Professional plan feature.
Checking a device out
- Open the device you're lending out.
- Scroll to the Checkout / Check-in section.
- Enter who it's checked out to, the checkout date, and a due-back date.
- Save. The device now shows as checked out on its record.
Checking a device back in
Open the device and click Check In (mark as returned). This clears the checkout fields — who it was checked out to, and the checkout and due-back dates — leaving the device's other details untouched.
Tip
Checkout is separate from the Assigned To field. Use Assigned To for a device's long-term owner, and Checkout for a temporary loan on top of that — for example, a pool laptop assigned to IT but checked out to a contractor for the week.
Tracking overdue returns
Devices with a due-back date in the past show up as overdue wherever your team reviews checked-out equipment, so nothing quietly disappears on long-term loan.
